Dr. Bob Herath graduated from the University Of Illinois' College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973. His wife, Pat, gave him a male canary for his birthday in 1974, and a canary hen the following year. Within six weeks, he had his first clutch of baby canaries! Cage-bird medicine was in its infancy in the early 1970’s, and as a charter member, Dr. Bob contributed funds to help create the Association of Avian Veterinarians.

Raising canaries is an interesting hobby, and Dr .Bob likes to educate clients and hobbyists about proper care, grooming, nutrition, health, and breeding. It is his delight to be able to see someone bring a canary into their home and to enjoy the life, beauty, and song afforded by this diminutive marvel.

Andalusia Road Veterinary Centre, Ltd. was founded by Bob and Pat, and opened June1, 1976 in Milan, Illinois. All pet mammals and cage-birds from finches to macaws are welcome. Dr .Bob was also one of the first veterinarians in the United States to become board-certified in veterinary acupuncture.
